The Hebrew Alphabet

Theory

The Hebrew Alphabet consists of 22 letters. Like every language, these letters are the building blocks that make up all the nouns, adjectives, verbs, etc. As we will see in this website, the verbs have a core root of 3 letters. These 3 letters can be a combination of any of the letters in the alphabet.

Questions and Answers

Q: Why is the first letter of the alphabet in the top right corner and not in the top left corner?

A: Hebrew is read from right to left. This explains why the first letter is in the top right corner.

Interesting Points

For some of the letters, there is a different form of the letter when it is the last letter of the word. To see what these forms look like and to which letters this applies to, see the video above. The word used after the name of the letter is "sofit". When listening to the video, you will hear "sofit" after the name of the letter.
